Before starting students on this Web Quest, it would be advisable to plan an introductory lesson on Web Quests, for the benefit of those who may not be familiar with the Web Quest concept. Students should also have basic Internet and independent research skills.
This web quest was created for middle school students specifically for understanding of the 7th grade Georgia Performance Standards.
Georgia Performance Standards:
SS7H1 The student will analyze continuity and change in Africa leading to the 21st century.
c. Explain the creation and end of apartheid in South Africa and the roles of Nelson Mandela and F.W.de Klerk.
Differentiation:
This learning experience could be delivered through a level approach to meet the needs of different levels of learners. The levels are listed below:
Level 1: This task could include just the completion of research notes.
Level 2: This task could be completion of research notes and enrichment activity.
Level 3: This task could be completion of research notes, enrichment activity and creation of Apartheid video.
Time Frame:
5 Lessons at 50 minutes each.
Materials:
Computers with internet access, digital cameras, and access to video creator software, such as iMovie, Window Movie Maker.
